O’Brennan JEP 2025: The Story of O’Brennan Shorts
8th Jun 2025
This year, 6th Class at O’Brennan NS proudly took part in the Junior Entrepreneur Programme (JEP), beginning their exciting journey back in November 2024. Throughout the programme, students explored the world of Irish entrepreneurship, studying successful businesses such as Keogh’s Crisps and Portwest.
Each student identified their own strengths and selected roles in key areas such as Marketing, Sales, Finance, and Design & Production. With the help of our visiting entrepreneur, Joe O’Connor, who shared insights into his own business experiences, the students gained valuable real-world knowledge.
The next step was facing the Dragons, where three creative business ideas were pitched: O’Brennan Shorts, Comic Books, and Sweet Bags. After much deliberation, the Dragons chose O’Brennan Shorts as the winning idea — a concept the students had carefully researched and backed up with surveys from families and students in the school community.
Once the idea was approved, production got underway! The students designed order forms, spread the word across the school, and proudly took their first orders on May 28th – Showcase Day. The excitement was real as orders rolled in and the business came to life.
A big thank you to the entire O’Brennan community for supporting this initiative. If you haven’t received your shorts just yet — don’t worry — they’re on the way!
Well done to all our young entrepreneurs — the future is bright! Ms. Nóra Buckley – 6th Class Teacher
